Perimeter Institute Opportunity for International Students and Teachers

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

There are two different sets of camps to know about – separate camps for students and for teachers.

1. Opportunity for International Students

All budding Einsteins age 16 to 17 are encouraged to apply before Tuesday, April 17, 2007 to take part in the International Summer School for Young Physicists (ISSYP) at Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.  This summer science camp challenges international students with some of the most fascinating ideas about how our universe works – from the weird quantum world of atoms to black holes, warped spacetime and the expanding universe.  The classes, small group mentoring sessions, lab tours and social events include instruction from the top, international scientists at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics – including researchers from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, U.K., Australia, and beyond.  Full details are available in the attached general information page and application form.  A synopsis of the details include:

a. Opportunity for about 50 international students with a keen interest in science to take part

b. Two sessions at Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada on the following dates:
    1. Friday, July 27 to Wednesday, August 8
    2. Tuesday, August 14 to Sunday, August 26

c. All expenses in Canada are covered by the Perimeter Institute.

d. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, April 17, 2007 – full details are attached.

2. Opportunity for International Teachers

Due to demand, Perimeter Institute’s Einstein Plus Teachers’ Workshop on Modern Physics for teachers is expanding this year from a national to an international program.  In addition, 3 one-week sessions will be offered.  Einstein Plus is an intensive workshop for high school teachers that focus on a number of key areas of modern physics, incorporating sessions on innovative teaching strategies suitable for all areas of physics; modern or otherwise.  Of particular benefit are sessions on classroom tested materials, and the opportunity to learn about some of the latest developments in theoretical physics from Perimeter Institute researchers at the forefront of their fields. Full details are available in the general information page and application form.  A synopsis of the details include:

a. Opportunity for approximately 50 international teachers with an interest in teaching science

b. Three sessions at Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
    1. Monday, July 2 to Saturday, July 7
    2. Monday, July 9 to Saturday, July 14
    3. Monday, July 16 to Saturday, July 21

c. All expenses in Canada are covered by the Perimeter Institute.

d. Deadline for applications is Thursday, April 12, 2007 – full details are attached
